Nevada can begin selling recreational marijuana as soon as this summer













Summer trips to Las Vegas and Reno are about to get way more lit.

The Nevada Tax Commission on Monday voted to allow qualifying licensed medical marijuana dispensaries to begin selling pot for recreational purposes as early as July 1, reports the Las Vegas Sun.
The commission has a Jan. 1 deadline to draft rules for recreational marijuana sales, but decided to issue early temporary licenses to qualifying shops in an effort to test regulations before the program goes into full effect in 2018.
Officials stressed the urge to adopt regulations early in order to meet Gov.

Study: Marijuana may be able to improve memory

Although the stereotype of the forgetful stoner persists, a new scientific study suggests that marijuana might actually help retain memories.
In a study published Monday in Nature Medicine, researchers from the University of Bonn, Germany found that marijuana’s psychoactive compound THC significantly benefits mature mice by improving cognitive functions such as memory, reports Newsweek.
Scientists studied the effects of THC by administering small doses to mice at three different life stages, with the latter two groups representing mature and old age.

NFL Players Association wants ‘more of a therapeutic approach’ to marijuana testing



Despite NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spending his offseason to denounce marijuana use, the league’s players association are now working to allow players to use medical cannabis.

In an appearance Tuesday on ESPN’s Outside the Lines, union executive director DeMaurice Smith said the NFLPA plans to discuss the current marijuana policy with league officials.
Smith said the NFLPA wants to pursue a “therapeutic approach” to players testing positive for pot use:
“We intended to present a proposal to the league that has probably more of a therapeutic approach to those who test positive for marijuana.

Congress blocks feds from interfering with state marijuana laws

A bipartisan group of House Democrats and Republicans recently hashed out a $1 trillion budget for government spending, but none of which will be used to crack down on legal pot.
A new government funding bill will block the Department of Justice from using federal funds to prosecute law-abiding medical marijuana companies operating in legal states, reports the Orange County Register.
The budget’s full text of the marijuana provision is as follows:

Mexico approves bill to legalize medical marijuana

Building from a series of rapid marijuana law reform sweeping Mexico, the country’s lawmakers have now voted to approve marijuana use for medicinal purposes.
Mexico’s Lower House of Congress passed a bill on Friday to legalize cannabis for both medical and scientific needs, reports the Associated Press.
“The ruling eliminates the prohibition and criminalization of acts related to the medicinal use of marijuana and its scientific research, and those relating to the production and distribution of the plant for these purposes,” the Lower House stated on its website.
The bill passed with 374 votes

Chili peppers, marijuana may help treat Type 1 diabetes and upset stomachs
