Ontario Government Sends Out Legalization Survey

Whether you agree with how legalization in Canada is taking shape or not, the one thing that can be agreed upon is that the government has asked for input from its people throughout the historic journey. Citizens of the Great White North have chimed in through surveys and town halls ever since the idea of legal weed was just a mere glimmer in Canada’s collective eye. The latest questionnaire has just been released by the Government of Ontario and it’s making the rounds faster than a joint at a Phish concert. This eight page document asks Ontarians a myriad of questions that will help form the initial framework of cannabis legislation in the province. Some of the queries might seem …

Alaska Considers Three Proposals to Legalize Onsite Consumption in Cannabis Retail Stores – News

The Alaska Marijuana Control Board is set to consider three different proposals that would allow individuals to consume cannabis products in retail stores. Local canna-business leaders have lobbied for onsite consumption, arguing that creating a legal area for public consumption will boost sales and spur new business opportunities. One proposal would allow customers to try any cannabis products in the store, but would require them to leave the premises afterwards. Retail stores would not be allowed to provide entertainment for stoned customers such as TVs or pool tables, but could provide couches, chairs, and coffee tables. This proposal includes a two-year moratorium on these sites. A second proposal would allow consumption of edibles onsite, but would prohibit smoking in the …

Mainstream Marketing Focuses on Cannabis Industry to Capture ‘Stoner’ Audience

Innovative marketing is not just about being original. It’s about knowing the experience the audience will enjoy and bringing it to them at the next level. It’s a mantra The World’s Best Ever (aka TWBE) has been dabbling in since 2014, when the Webby-nominated culture website launched a creative marketing portal specializing in cannabis. David Wilfert, “editor-in-charge” and co-founder of TWBE, created the portal after being approached by independent entertainment company A24 to dream up ideas for Kevin Smith’s film, Tusk. Their first project, “Toke N’ Tusk,” was a cannabis-focused campaign that included two Tusk-branded strains of medical marijuana available for sale at Buds & Roses in Studio City. They also bought digital media on High Times, Cannabist, Dangerous Minds, Boing …

Marijuana legalization raises the need for more research

Credit: Elena Zhukova At a Paul McCartney concert at San Francisco’s AT&T Park in 2010, Matthew Springer, PhD, wasn’t shocked to be surrounded by a haze of marijuana smoke. He was, however, amazed that the audience tolerated it without complaint. “All of these people knew to avoid smoke from cigarettes, because the public health community has been saying that for decades,” recalls Springer, a professor of medicine at UC San Francisco. But, he adds, “we haven’t been given that message about marijuana smoke, so people thought that it was different – that it was somehow okay.” Was it? Springer wondered. Now that recreational, in addition to medical, marijuana is legal in California – thanks to the resounding approval in November …

Toronto Mayor Announces Impending Raids on Dispensaries

Toronto’s got a lot going on this weekend: a concert by pop auteur Carly Rae Jepsen, a soccer match between Toronto FC and D.C. United, and a self-explanatory (and delicious-sounding) Father’s Day Chocolate Tour. And if Toronto Mayor John Tory gets his wish, the coming days could bring something else: a fresh batch of raids on the city’s illegal-yet-plentiful cannabis dispensaries. Details come from Mayor Tory himself, who today appeared on CBC Radio’s Metro Morning show to explain his push for a renewed crackdown. “I just don’t think [dispensaries] are meant to be in every neighbourhood, in every retail strip,” said Tory. “I don’t think people want them and they’re against the law.” And while the mayor acknowledged the impropriety of …
