Imagine if every year around Christmas time, Jay-Z, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Future, and the world’s top rappers all decided to enter a studio together and see what magic they could make for two weeks straight. That’s the equivalent of what goes down leading up to 4/20 at the Everdream studio in Evergreen, Colorado, where many of the nation’s top glass artists get together and collaborate.

Whether by car or plane, renowned glass artists assemble at this artistic haven in Evergreen, Colorado, just 45 minutes west of Denver.

This past Thursday was 420, and while I was still technically dead from Coachella weekend, the Observatory’s lineup was not to be missed.

The business software company MJ Freeway has reported the retail portion of cannabis sales on 4/20 exceeded $45 million, a 20% increase from last year’s marijuana holiday.
MJ Freeway’s 4/20 by the Numbers:

MJ Freeway predicted a 10% increase in order count (number of transactions) for the week of 4/20 (4/14 – 4/20).

Stoners across the world got together last week to celebrate the slow but steady decline of marijuana prohibition. The week of 4/20 is the biggest sales week for cannabis retailers, and as more states legalize, the revenue from cannabis sales gets larger every year. According to MJ Freeway, a company that provides seed-to-sale traceability solutions for the cannabis industry, retail cannabis sales exceeded $45 million this 4/20.

Based on sales data from the past seven years, MJ Freeway correctly predicted that this year's 4/20 sales would increase by 20% from last year.

The Trump administration now appears to have another tool in its propaganda arsenal to support a federal crackdown on legal marijuana.

Last week, the National District Attorneys Association published a detailed perspective calling for the federal government to beef up its marijuana enforcement across the nation because statewide legalization efforts have given children more access to the herb.

I have a dark secret to admit.
4/20 intimidates me.
As someone more interested in the social politics and policies concerning marijuana, and less interested in taking dabs or consuming high dosage edibles — not that there’s anything wrong with that — the industry’s highest holiday can feel a bit aggressive and over the top for me.
Can’t we calmly share a couple of joints and engage in light-hearted conversation about the absurdity of it all?
While it might not seem like the natural 4/20 event to attend, I spent 4:20 p.m.

Although the 4/20 weekend is over for this year, TWB is still getting some great submissions for content about this stoner holiday.  When this one, done by a group of Harvard students called On Harvard Time (OHT), included Harvard Economist Jeffrey Miron, we knew we wanted to share it.

On April 20, 2017, the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committee in both the Colorado Senate and House officially signed off on advancing legislation that could eventually add Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a qualifying condition for Colorado’s medical marijuana program.
Passed by a 34 to 1 vote, Senate Bill 17-017 initially garnered strong support on the Senate floor during March. Approved by the House of Representatives on 4/20 after being slightly modified, SB17-017 will now head back for a final vote before the Senate.
