Hawaii Is on the Verge of Legally Changing the Nomenclature of “Marijuana” to “Cannabis” – News

Hawaii health officials could soon be forced to officially change the term “medical marijuana” to “medical cannabis,” which legislative forces believe more accurately describes the true therapeutic nature of the herb without the racial connotations.

There is a bill currently sitting on the desk of Governor David Ige that, if signed, would dictate the change of all documentation, websites or other materials pertaining to the state’s medical marijuana program to express medical cannabis instead.

The bill was introduced by Senator Mike Gabbard because, according to its language, the term marijuana “carries prejudicial implications rooted in racial stereotypes.”

New Medical Marijuana Regulations in Israel Allow Public Cannabis Consumption – News

Israel has been a leader in medical marijuana research for years, and now, thanks to a new set of directives released by the country’s Health Ministry, the state is setting a new standard of accommodation by allowing medical patients to legally consume cannabis in public.

According to Haaretz, the new directives went into effect immediately and now permit the use of cannabis oils and vaporizers in public spaces.

Smoking marijuana in public will remain illegal, but a rule change made in March means that even lighting up in downtown Tel Aviv will only result in a citation and a fine.

Florida Medical Dispensaries Are Getting Around the State’s “Vape-Only” Regulations

Florida voters approved medical marijuana legislation by a landslide in November of last year, but since then, state lawmakers have done their best to restrict Floridians from actually smoking – by setting up a system that allows vaporizing cannabis but bans combustion. But as you probably know, there are plenty of vaporizers that use the same cannabis bud that we traditionally associate with smoking.

Attorney General Sessions Continues to Indicate Looming Federal Marijuana Crackdown

Although President Trump’s Justice Department has yet to give a solid indication over whether it intends to drag the United States back to a time where total prohibition was the law of the land, some of the administration’s recent actions give every indication that the days of legalization are about to start changing – and definitely not for the better.

Last week, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions emerged from his office waving a new memo that completely destroys a common sense policy set out years ago by former Attorney General Eric Holder.

New Jersey Lawmakers Will Announce Recreational Marijuana Legalization Bill Today

This Monday, New Jersey State Senator Nicholas Scutari is planning to announce a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state. "The national trend is toward legalization," said Scutari, who has been advocating for legalization for years. “It's absolutely necessary to save our neighborhoods from drug dealers. And we can use the tax revenue. And people are smoking it anyway.”

If passed, the bill would make New Jersey the ninth state to allow recreational pot use. The bill may have a chance of passing both chambers of the state's Democratic-majority legislature, but Gov.

While we’ve certainly had a fair share of unprecedented moves by the president and his administration, the past few days have truly taken things to a whole new level. Just as the ongoing investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia escalated on the heels of a public testimony from former acting Attorney General Sally Yates, the president announced that he was dismissing FBI Director James Comey from his duties.

Texas Fails to Decriminalize Marijuana Possession

Although there was a great deal of hope that the Texas Legislature would take a bold leap in 2017 and decriminalize the possession of marijuana, it appears that people are going to continue getting jammed up for this non-violent offense for at least another year.

According to a report from the Statesman, the House of Representatives failed to give a marijuana decriminalization measure (House Bill 81) any consideration in the eleventh hour of the legislative session, killing it and the rest of the bills on the roster that got the chance to reach the chamber floor.

The Dakota Access Pipeline Is Already Leaking, Confirming Opponents' Fears

The Dakota Access Pipeline is already leaking, and it’s only been a few months since President Trump reversed Obama’s denial of a permit that halted construction on it. After years of bitter fighting by indigenous people and environmental activists, efforts to delay the $3.8 billion Dakota Access Pipeline have been defeated, largely thanks to Republicans taking control of every branch of government. Despite the exhaustive efforts of protestors and lawyers for indigenous groups, the pipeline is completed and some oil is already flowing in preparation for when the DAPL is fully operational.
