Cannabis Retail Shops Sold Over $45 Million of Weed This 4/20

Stoners across the world got together last week to celebrate the slow but steady decline of marijuana prohibition. The week of 4/20 is the biggest sales week for cannabis retailers, and as more states legalize, the revenue from cannabis sales gets larger every year. According to MJ Freeway, a company that provides seed-to-sale traceability solutions for the cannabis industry, retail cannabis sales exceeded $45 million this 4/20.

Based on sales data from the past seven years, MJ Freeway correctly predicted that this year's 4/20 sales would increase by 20% from last year.

Canadian MP Calls Out Justin Trudeau for “Abject Hypocrisy” Regarding Cannabis

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may seem like a solid ally of the cannabis movement, especially ever since he spearheaded legislation that would legalize recreational cannabis use across the country by July 2018. Hell, the young and charismatic leader even smoked marijuana while he was still a MP, and it’s hard not to admire a politician for admitting that.

But Tom Mulcair, the leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP), feels that Trudeau isn’t doing enough for those who are still facing cannabis possession charges.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney Believes Pennsylvania Should Legalize Marijuana

In an effort to prevent more people from going to jail over marijuana possession, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney believes the state should drag its policies out of the trenches of prohibition and legalize a recreational cannabis trade similar to what is happening in other jurisdictions.

Over the weekend, Kenney was asked what he thought about the recent bust at a Philadelphia pot party, in which police seized 50 pounds of marijuana, 100 pounds of THC-infused edible products and $50,000 in cash, according to a report from Philly.com.

Kenney called the raid “overkill.”

“The real solution to this is

Researchers Find That Even Low Doses of MDMA Enhance Emotional Empathy

A new study published this month in the Journal of Psychopharmacology reports that even small doses of MDMA can enhance emotional empathy towards others. Researchers in the Netherlands and Switzerland conducted six double-blind studies on a total of 118 participants. Each individual ingested a 75mg MDMA pill, a 125mg MDMA pill, or a placebo pill, and then completed an empathy test.

The researchers found that the drug enhanced emotional empathy, meaning a person's affective response to another person's emotional state.

In Trudeau’s Vision for Canada, Legal Weed Will Be Bought and Sold Online

Earlier this month Canada put forth a proposal to legalize, tax, and regulate cannabis on a nationwide scale. The two legalization bills have been widely heralded and, if passed, would make Canada the world’s leader in cannabis legislation.

Part of that cutting edge, according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will be an online marketplace where Canadians will be able to buy their weed without even ever have to physically step foot in a dispensary should they choose to.

The Internet revelation came during a live conversation about Canadian legalization hosted by Vice Canada.

New Maryland Greenhouse Will Grow Nearly 10,000 Pounds of Medical Marijuana

As Maryland's medical marijuana program ramps up, new canna-businesses are preparing the infrastructure to provide cannabis to patients. There are currently around 4,000 patients and 100 caregivers registered to participate in the state's program. While there is currently no way for patients to legally purchase medical marijuana at this time, the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission has already awarded 30 preliminary licenses to companies to grow or process marijuana.

One of the companies that received preliminary approval to grow medical cannabis is ForwardGro, who are building a massive greenhouse in Anne Arundel County.

National District Attorneys Claim Legalization Is Putting Pot in the Hands of Children

The Trump administration now appears to have another tool in its propaganda arsenal to support a federal crackdown on legal marijuana.

Last week, the National District Attorneys Association published a detailed perspective calling for the federal government to beef up its marijuana enforcement across the nation because statewide legalization efforts have given children more access to the herb.

Swiss Advocacy Group Campaigns for Full-Scale Cannabis Legalization

A new advocacy campaign in Switzerland hopes to end cannabis prohibition and create a taxed and regulated nation-wide industry.

Currently, cannabis containing less than 1% THC is legal and sold over the counter in the notoriously neutral country, but any bud that will actually get you high can still land you a 100 franc fine or jail time if you’re holding more than nine grams.

According to Swiss newspaper The Local, the new proposal would be similar to American single state efforts to legalize, with a taxed and regulated retail system making THC-full weed available in the same manner
