Authorities find $1 million worth of pot hidden in new Ford Fusions

Looking for a new car with lots of cargo room? The new Ford Fusions apparently have enough space to smuggle large amounts of marijuana.

Authorities from Ohio and Pennsylvania have found over 400 pounds of pot hidden throughout 15 Ford vehicles manufactured in Mexico and shipped to the U.S., reports the Associated Press.

Investigators found packages pressed specifically to fit inside the wheel wells for spare tires. Each wheel weighed approximately 14.5 kilos, or nearly 32 pounds.

“We’re aware of the situation and are taking it very seriously,” a Ford Motor Company spokesman told CNN on Saturday. “We are working with the FBI and Customs on an extensive investigation. We have confirmed that this is not happening at our plant or at our internal shipping yards.”

Silverio Balzano, the agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Youngstown office in Ohio, believes that the smugglers simply failed to retrieve their product.
