Nevada Recreational Marijuana Sales May Be Delayed By Courts – News

The planned July 1st rollout of early recreational marijuana sales in Nevada may now be delayed due to a complaint filed by alcohol distributors in the state. This week, a district court judge signed a temporary restraining order prohibiting the state Department of Taxation from enforcing the May 31st deadline for marijuana retail license applications.

The court order was issued following a complaint by the Independent Alcohol Distributors of Nevada, who argued that the ballot measure that legalized cannabis last fall gave liquor wholesalers exclusive rights to marijuana sales licenses for the first 18 months of sales.

There was much hope that Nevada would become the first state in the nation to legalize an Americanized version of the cannabis lounge, but a bill designed to bring this controversial concept to fruition was left for dead last week at the gates of the Assembly.

According to reports, Senate Bill 236, which was introduced by Senator Tick Segerblom and approved by the Senate in a vote of 12-to-9, failed to receive any consideration from the Assembly before last Friday’s deadline – killing the bill until next session.

Nevada Lawmakers Want to Give Police Access to Medical Marijuana Dispensary Security Feeds – News

To give law enforcement the upper hand when combating hooligans, thugs and other unsavory products of uncivil society, Nevada lawmakers are pushing for a policy that would give police departments emergency access to the live surveillance feeds of medical marijuana dispensaries.

On Monday, the Senate Finance Committee heard a proposal (Senate Bill 329) that aims to strengthen the state’s medical marijuana program by offering more security for the businesses most exposed to criminal activity.

However, the bill is somewhat controversial, as industry leaders are concerned that it might open up the possibility for police to conduct clandestine investigations without permission.

Utah GOP Votes Down Resolution Supporting Medical Marijuana – News

The Southwest corner of the United States has become an indubitable hotbed for the cannabis movement. Both California and Nevada are preparing their own recreational systems, and although Arizona rejected full-scale legalization last November, they’ve still got a relatively robust medical system in place. The wild west truly is the cannabis capital of the world - that is of course, until you reach the ultra-conservative state of Utah.

Over the weekend, representatives in the Beehive State continued to suppress access to medical marijuana, striking down a resolution that would support treatment for a variety of medical conditions.

Nevada Medical Marijuana Dispensaries are Scrambling to Prepare for Early Recreational Sales – News

Earlier this month, the Nevada Tax Commission approved a measure that will allow medical marijuana dispensaries to acquire temporary licenses to sell recreational marijuana. Early sales begin on July 1st, giving dispensaries a little over a month to handle the additional paperwork needed to secure a chance at this lucrative opportunity.

“It’s great news for everybody,” Ben Sillitoe, CEO and co-founder of Las Vegas dispensary Oasis Cannabis, told Marijuana Business Daily.

The state Department of Taxation began accepting applications on May 15th, and will continue to accept them until the 31st.
