Maine Doesn’t Want to Be the First State to Legalize Social Pot Clubs


Ever since Colorado pulled the plug on its idea of allowing public marijuana consumption in designated areas, lawmakers in Maine have been looking to use the retreat as an excuse to do the same.

According to the Portland Press Herald, there are concerns with the part of the state's legal marijuana law that allows for the creation of social pot clubs. Lawmakers are now toying with the idea of postponing the licensing of these types of operations until they can be certain that there no longer exists the threat of federal interference.

Indiana Governor Expected to Sign Medical Marijuana Bill


Indiana is well on its way to having an ultra-light medical marijuana law put on the books in 2017.

Earlier last week, legislative forces in Indianapolis put their seal of approval on a measure aimed at giving epilepsy patients access to a non-intoxicating form of marijuana, commonly referred to as CBD oil. The bill managed to get through the Senate on Thursday, followed by a unanimous vote in the House right before lawmakers cleared out for the weekend.

California Regulators Study Impact of Cannabis Growing on Energy


Since Prop 64 was passed last November, California has anxiously prepared for what will undoubtedly make it the central hub of the world’s cannabis industry. But while the Left Coast braces itself for the explosive market that recreational legalization is predicted to create, regulators and utility companies are concerned about how cultivation will impact the state’s energy supply.   

Back in February, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) hosted a workshop to study the potential effects of large-scale cannabis cultivation on the state’s power grid.

Iowa Lawmakers Passed Last Minute Legislation to Expand Medical Marijuana Access


Just hours before adjourning for the year, Iowa’s House of Representatives voted to pass House FIle 524, a piece of legislation that, if signed by the governor, would expand the state’s extremely limited medical marijuana program and bring cannabis cultivation to Iowa.

According to the Des Moines Register, the bill wasn’t unveiled to the Iowa House until 3 a.m. Saturday morning, and it passed State Senate approval by 7 a.m. the same day.
