An upcoming scientific study is looking for people to get stoned while behind the wheel, albeit not on any actual roads.
Researchers from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) are conducting a study to judge how long users are impaired to drive after consuming cannabis, ABC15.com reports.
UCSD’s Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) recently announced a partnership with the California Highway Patrol to conduct the study authorized by the California Legislature.
“If you smoked this morning are you impaired throughout the day? Are you impaired for a couple of hours? Or are you not impaired? We’re trying to answer that,” said Tom Marcotte, Co-Director of the CMCR.
The research team is looking for 180 participants with experience using marijuana, making this study the largest of its kind.
Those chosen will be asked to smoke joints with different doses, from high THC to no THC at all. They will then be asked to go through a series of driving simulations, field sobriety tests, and bodily fluid draws.
