Strain Review: Tangie | Marijuana

Cannabis consumers come in many forms, so we’ve included multiple points of view in our strain reviews. Our longtime reviewers Monterey Bud and Duke London join Multimedia Coordinator Allena Braithwaite and Managing Editor Lesley Nickus. Today, they’ll be reviewing Tangie, a Sativa-dominant hybrid purchased at ShowGrow Santa Ana.

Bud of Tangie flowers

This batch was tested and cleared for human consumption on April. 12, 2018.

Monterey Bud

Tangie is a citrus-forward strain that was created by crossbreeding some California Orange (Cali-O) with a hybridized cut of Skunk #1. A Sativa-dominant hybrid with mood-altering qualities, Tangie typically flashes some very distinct phenotypes at full maturation. Lean, green, and loaded with orange pistils, my nug of Tangie was conical-shaped and appeared dusted with ripe trichomes. While Tangie may look like your basic Sativa at first glance, don’t be fooled. These characteristically diminutive buds are highly coveted for their lofty terpene profile by today’s skilled hash makers. Rolled, lit, and ripped at the home office, my joint of Tangie smacked of diesel fuel and cheese. After a few tokes off the Tangie joint, I felt clear headed and ready for another day of  weird news.

Duke London

The aroma from the THC Design Tangie was pungent from the second I opened up the jar, with overpowering citrus notes that reminded me of a freshly squeezed lemonade. The tartness carried over into the flavor, though the sour first impressions gave way to a sweet aftershock and a filmy residue in my mouth, most likely from the abundance of trichomes on its exterior. After smoking a joint of the Tangie, my worries faded for the time being, as I was preoccupied with the dominant high i was feeling in my forehead, quickly spreading outwards into the rest of my being.

Allena Braithwaite

Fresh bursts of tangy weed-musk fill the air the moment the jar was twisted open. Then, there’s the bud itself. Tangie’s aroma and bud-structure are all you would expect from the super Sativa. I enjoyed Tangie in a joint, and the papers hardly dull her bright notes. The earthy inhale joins a flavor that reminds me of lime rind. Taking the exhale welcomed sweeter tones and a tinge of refreshing tangerine. This bud lied to me. “I’m not high at all!” exclaimed my brain as it burst with a cerebral rush. Then, the stoney stuff started. My mood and focus lifted at the same pace and rode a high that lasted about an hour.
