If your mom is anything like mine, she would love fantastic skin care and anything spa-related. Today’s Sensible Sensi is for guys and gals who are ballin’ on a budget, but still want to treat mom like the queen she is.

who's a queen?

Mom’s a kween.

DIY Cannaspa

This tip works regardless of whether mom is a cannabis supporter thanks to good ‘ol super nutritious, non-intoxicating hemp. Before I get into the weeds of this spa-travaganza, here’s the lowdown on hemp. Hemp seed oil contains a large amount of essential fatty acids alpha-Linolenic acid and linoleic acid. These help the body increase metabolism, beef up the immune system and keep cholesterol levels right where you want ’em. Hemp seeds are packed with dietary fiber and protein, and a small dose of calcium and iron. If you’re anything like me, mom kept you nurtured and healthy for well over 18 years. Now it’s our turn!

CBD + Coconut Oil Scrub

Jars of DIY body scrub next to aloe

Infused Scrubs

This DIY gift is perfect for moms that are totally against THC and who could kick off a conversation that normalizes hemp and cannabis. CBD is non-intoxicating and full of healthful benefits. Here’s the super easy recipe:

Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar (1 cup = 200 g)
½ Cup Coconut Oil (½ cup = 118.5 mL)
Essential oils of your choice
1 teaspoon of CBD Crystalline (1 tsp equals about 5 mL)

Instructions:

Place the coconut oil In a saucepan over very low heat. Once completely melted, add in CBD Crystalline and stir. Do this until the CBD Crystalline has completely dissolved into the coconut oil, then quickly remove from heat.

Put the cup of granulated sugar into a bowl. Next, check the temperature of the coconut oil. It should be warm enough to be slightly melted, but not hot to avoid caramelizing the sugar. Pour the coconut oil and CBD into the bowl of sugar and whip until even.

I added lavender to the scrub as well. You can add any of mom’s favorite herbs to this recipe

Now for making it smell great: Essential oils offer their own therapeutic value, and some brands have blends for specific things such as stress or focus. Add between 5 to 7 drops of essential oil, or as many drops you like, and mix one final time.

Voila! You’ve made your first gift.

You can use the same recipe to create a stronger scrub for hands and feet. Simply substitute  raw brown sugar for granulated sugar in the above recipe. And for a softer scrub gradually add more coconut oil until you achieve the desired consistency.

Brunch Granola + Shelled Hemp Seeds

Handmade scrub is impressive, but if you show up with a nutritious brunch, she’ll know she raised you right. Again, this one is safe for 420-unfriendly moms.

Ingredients:
1 Mason jar
1 cup Greek yogurt (1 cup = 237 mL)
1 /2  cup granola (1 / 2 cup is about 51 g)
1 /4 cup shelled hemp seeds (1 /4 cup is about 40 g)
1 /2 cup mixed berries (1 /2 cup is about 63 g)
4 tablespoons of Honey (4 tbsp is about 60 mL)

Instructions:

Fill the jar with the first layer, the cup of greek yogurt. Next, pour in the granola and most of the shelled hemp seeds. Top that with mixed berries or fruit of your choice. Drizzle honey over it and then sprinkle the last of the hemp seeds to complete your brunch made with love.

Lavender Palmer (optional infusion)

What’s a spa day without refreshments? If you and mom are sharing a jay this mother’s day you’ll need Lavender Lemonade to quench that cottonmouth. And if you’re smoking on your own then going to visit mom, you’ll still need (want?) it.

Ingredients:
1 cup honey (1 cup = 237 mL)
5 cups water (5 cups = 1.183 L)
1 tablespoon (15 mL) lavender green tea or ¼ cup(60 mL) fresh, crushed lavender blossoms
1 cup lemon juice (1 cup = 237 mL)
Ice cubes
THC or CBD tincture, or Edible infused Syrup

Instructions:

Bring 2 ½ cups (590 mL) of water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat. Add honey, stirring until dissolved. Add lavender and let steep for at least 20 minutes. For a stronger lavender flavor, steep for several hours.

Strain the mixture and pour into a pitcher. Add lemon juice and the remaining 2 ½ cups (590 mL) of cold water. Drip the recommended dosage of cannabis tincture or syrup into the mixture. Stir well and refrigerate.

This yummy recipe came from Marijuana.com contributor Schwilly and is sure to make mom swoon.

1 lb milk chocolate (1 lb = 453.59 g)
1 / 3 cup medicated coconut oil (1 /3 cup = 79 mL)

Equipment:
Cookie sheets
Double boiler
Food processor
Slotted spoon
Wax paper

Directions

  • Using a food processor, grind cookies up. Add cream cheese, medicated coconut oil and vanilla extract and blend until thoroughly mixed. There should be no white traces of cream cheese.
  • Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes, then roll into small balls and place on wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Refrigerate or freeze again for 30 minutes.
  • Line two cookie sheets with wax paper.
  • In a double boiler, melt milk chocolate. Dip refrigerated balls in the chocolate and coat thoroughly. With slotted spoon, lift balls out of chocolate and let excess chocolate drip off. Place the truffles on the wax paper-lined cookie sheet.
  • Let cool and enjoy! Refrigerate in an airtight container to store.

The recipe and directions yield about 24 to 30 truffles. For step-by-step instructions, go to Schwilly’s site, The Canna Chronicles.
