Vermont lawmakers near recreational marijuana legalization

Vermont is now poised to become the next state to allow recreational marijuana use.
The state’s House of Representatives on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill to legalize marijuana use for adults, reports the Burlington Free Press.
The bill has already been approved by the state’s Senate and now awaits the approval of Republican Gov.

Vermont legislature approves marijuana legalization bill | Reuters




BOSTON Vermont lawmakers on Wednesday approved a measure to legalize recreational use of marijuana, which if not vetoed by the governor would make the state the ninth to legalize the drug and the first to do so by legislation rather than ballot initiative.The U.S. state's House of Representatives, by a 79-66 vote, approved the measure, which was attached to a bill increasing penalties for the possession and sale of the opioid drug fentanyl.

Vermont House Votes to Legalize Cannabis Possession and Home Cultivation


The majestically mountainous state of Vermont is known as a progressive bastion in the northeastern part of the United States, but somehow, neighboring states like Massachusetts and Maine have been quicker to pass legislation approving recreational cannabis. However, the last few months have shown that the state is nearing some form of legalization. 

Back in February, proposition H. 170 hit the floor of the Vermont House, aiming to legalize possession of marijuana.

Marijuana Legalization Bill Passes Through Vermont Senate





With all of the state legislatures being in session and the current state of momentum in the cannabis policy reform movement, it is no surprise that many states are seeing marijuana bills and other proposals come through for consideration.  The State of Vermont is no exception.Just recently, the Vermont Senate voted 21-9 in favor of a bill that would legalize marijuana for adults in the State and would create a regulatory agency on the production and sale of marijuana.
