Contrary to Gov. Chris Christie’s anti-pot stance, New Jersey lawmakers are working to become the next state to legalize marijuana.

A bill to legalize, regulate, and tax the recreational adult use of marijuana was introduced in the state Senate on Monday, reports NJ.com.
Under the bill, adults 21 and over would be allowed to possess up to one ounce of marijuana or 16 ounces of cannabis-infused products, including edibles. A tax on marijuana sales would be established, beginning at seven percent and rising to 25 percent over the course of five years.

New Jersey Lawmakers Will Announce Recreational Marijuana Legalization Bill Today

This Monday, New Jersey State Senator Nicholas Scutari is planning to announce a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state. "The national trend is toward legalization," said Scutari, who has been advocating for legalization for years. “It's absolutely necessary to save our neighborhoods from drug dealers. Is New Jersey Preparing to Legalize Marijuana?

New Jersey lawmakers are fully prepared to legalize a recreational marijuana market the second Governor Chris Christie leaves office.

Speaking at a conference hosted by the New Jersey Hospital Association in Princeton, New Jersey, Christie had some choice words for pro-cannabis legislators:
“They want that blood money? Let them do it. And they will.

A bipartisan group of House Democrats and Republicans recently hashed out a $1 trillion budget for government spending, but none of which will be used to crack down on legal pot.
A new government funding bill will block the Department of Justice from using federal funds to prosecute law-abiding medical marijuana companies operating in legal states, reports the Orange County Register.
The budget’s full text of the marijuana provision is as follows:
None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to any of the States
