Congress blocks feds from interfering with state marijuana laws

A bipartisan group of House Democrats and Republicans recently hashed out a $1 trillion budget for government spending, but none of which will be used to crack down on legal pot.
A new government funding bill will block the Department of Justice from using federal funds to prosecute law-abiding medical marijuana companies operating in legal states, reports the Orange County Register.
The budget’s full text of the marijuana provision is as follows:
None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to any of the States

Marijuana Legalization Bill Passes Through Vermont Senate

New Hampshire Legislators Debate Marijuana Decriminalization


The New Hampshire Senate is currently debating the details of a bill that would decriminalize marijuana possession. Last month, the state House overwhelmingly voted in favor of a bill that would make possession of an ounce or less of pot a violation, not a crime. The bill would prohibit police from arresting anyone possessing that small amount of weed, and set a fine of $100 for a first-time offense.

“The prohibition is crumbling,” Matt Simon, New England political director for the Marijuana Policy Project, said.

New Hampshire Senate Debates New Bills Aiming to Relax Medical Marijuana Regulations


The New Hampshire state Senate is considering several bills that would relax or expand the state's medical marijuana regulations. One bill would allow anyone authorized to use medical marijuana to grow their own cannabis plants. Other bills up for consideration would add PTSD and chronic pain to the list of qualifying conditions for MMJ. These bills all passed the House last month with strong support.

This week, state Senate committees held public hearings to hear testimony from individuals who have been helped by medical marijuana.
