Former NHL bruiser Riley Cote says marijuana can help heal brain injuries

Riley Cote spent his entire NHL career dishing out physical punishment to his opponents, but now spends his time trying to heal athletes with the help of cannabis.

The ex-Philadelphia Flyers enforcer will be featured on the upcoming episode of Cannabis Planet, a weekly educational series carried by independent major market networks.

“Prohibition has affected our society in many negative ways, we have a health crisis, an opioid crisis and cannabis can re-connect us with the natural world,” says Cote.

Cote has recently joined several retired athletes from various sports to form the organization Athletes For Care, a nonprofit group encouraging athletes to use cannabis as a non-lethal alternative to prescription painkillers. The group argues that cannabis could help heal, and perhaps prevent, brain disorders such as CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and post-traumatic stress.

The tough guy turned compassionate caregiver has also founded the Hemp Heals Foundation, which hosts an annual music festival in Philadelphia that encourages marijuana advocacy.
