Uruguay to Export Medical Marijuana Oil

Uruguay’s first batch of medical cannabis oil will be ready for export this December. The initial countries expected to receive the medicine are Canada and Mexico.

The oil is being manufactured by the International Cannabis Corporation (ICC), which touts itself as the first integrated cannabis organization in South America. CEO Alejandro Antalich has stated that his Uruguay-based company is open to selling the oil on Uruguay’s domestic market as well.

“The goal is to export it. But if the Public Health Minister thinks it can be commercialized in the local market the idea would be to do that,” said Antalich.

Uruguay was the first country in the world to legalize marijuana in 2013 and exporting this cannabis oil would be a new first for the progressive South American nation.

Next month, the ICC will begin construction of a new marijuana laboratory on the outskirts of Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Until the lab is ready in April, the company will be producing oil destined for export in a transitory lab.
