Former FBI agent runs to become Illinois’ first ‘Cannabis Congressman’

Benjamin Thomas Wolf wants to become the first open cannabis user to become an Illinois congressman.

Wolf, a former FBI national security official, released a campaign ad on Monday featuring him holding a lit joint, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

The 42-year-old Wolf, who currently works as an adjunct professor at Chicago’s Roosevelt University, is challenging incumbent Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley for the 5th Congressional District of Illinois, which includes Chicago’s North and Northwest neighborhoods.

Now on his official campaign website, the self-proclaimed “cannabis candidate” is seen in a photograph of Wolf holding a lit joint while sitting in front of an American Flag painting, as marijuana smoke wafts in the air.

“As a cannabis user, I think it’s important we get out front and talk about it,” Wolf said to the Sun-Times. “We realize that cannabis can bring billions of dollars to the state, it’s medicine for millions of people around the country, it changes criminal justice reform and personally I think it’s a wonderful recreational substance as well.”
