Last week, three United States senators were captured conversing on a veranda on Capitol Hill. After seeing the image, Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska told his 138,000 Twitter followers that he and fellow Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) looked more like extras in the movie “Dazed and Confused” than elected government officials.

Sasse’s not wrong: the gym shorts make him look more like a college student than a Senator. Senator Schumer –the one with the disheveled hair–looks more like Uncle Jay looking for a J than a suit in D.C. Plus, the telescope behind him even kind of looks like a giant doobie.
Sasse wasn’t alone in thinking so, either, as the image struck a nerve and made its viral way around the web. Then, Senator Schumer, the star of the picture, chimed in:
