My posts of Week 1 and Week 2 were so full of activity, I didn’t think they could be topped until Weeks 3 and 4 came around!Cannabis Season – Week 3This week includes Dope Cup 2017, another wander to Frankie’s place, and visits to some of my favorite downtown Portland dispensaries. Here is how I walked 13.0 miles from Sunday April 23 through Saturday, April 29.Sunday, 1.7 miles. I took the BoltBus from Portland to Seattle and then walked about a mile south to Dockside Cannabis to attend Dope Cup 2017.

The Cultivation Classic is the world’s ONLY cannabis competition event that is exclusively for ethically-grown product free of pesticides, defining craft and celebrating community.  This event is held in Portland, Oregon and is coming up on May 12th (this Friday!) and is not to be missed whether you are a consumer, an industry professional, or an activist (or all of the above!).Tickets are available now for CULTIVATION CLASSIC, the world’s only competition and celebration exclusively for pesticide-free cannabis grown in Oregon.

Recreational cannabis in Oregon was first legalized back in 2014, and while the overall market has grown immensely over since then, the medical side of the marijuana industry seems to have gotten the short end of the stick. Since the two sectors were officially split up last January, over 200 medical dispensaries have either shut down or shifted their focus towards recreational sales.



Overall, the recreational takeover has led to an 84 percent decline in the number of medical dispensaries. The patient count has also seen an increasingly sharp decline since adult-use became fully legalized.

As more states legalize cannabis, we see various ways that non-legalized states are building companies alongside the cannabis movement and industry.  Well, Idaho is no exception as there is news from Boise about a shop called Welcomed Science CBD.CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of the most prevalent chemical compounds in the cannabis plant. Unlike the more famous molecule, THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is completely nonpsychoactive.This shop provides products that are dietary supplements designed to help maintain an effective, delicious, and affordable daily CBD regiment.

Since the transition from a medical marijuana to a recreational/adult-use marijuana laws in the state of Oregon, this has be a highly contested topic between activists, industry professionals, and State policy makers.We received this news from the governing authority of the recreational/adult-use marijuana program (the OLCC) just yesterday, and it goes into effect on Monday.

We have been covering the topic of social cannabis consumption for quite a while at The Weed Blog.  Being based in Portland we would love to see Oregon be the first state to pioneer this area of the cannabis industry (and we are sure hopeful with Senate Bill 307 on the lines currently).

Maine legislators will be considering several bills this season that would allow established medical marijuana providers a shot at selling recreational weed before official retail cannabis stores open next year.

It is essential that cannabis industry professionals stay educated and current on cannabis policy and science as this industry continues to develop.  There is an excellent opportunity to do just that in Portland , Oregon this evening.From the Oregon Cannabis Association (OCA):The Oregon Cannabis association and the Portland Mercury present “Toke Talks”, an evening of TedX style programming with some of the finest minds in Oregon cannabis. Special keynote speaker Rep. Earl Blumenauer kicks off an evening of 10 minute talk about cannabis, from the practical to the esoteric.

You definitely aren’t alone, and as part of yesterday’s 4/20 celebration, we teamed up with /r/trees and Congressional Cannabis Caucus member and just flat out chill Oregon legislator Earl Blumenauer for a special holiday edition of “Ask Me Anything.”


Members of Congress are now doing AMAs on the subreddit devoted to marijuana use, truly America is already great.
