Montana Will Begin Collecting Taxes on Medical Marijuana Next Month – News

Montana may not be a cannabis tourism hotspot like Colorado or California, but the Big Sky State has had medical marijuana legislation on the books since 2004. Now, after 13 years of operation, Montana will finally begin to make some money off of legal weed, with the state’s first ever medical marijuana sales tax set to take effect at the end of the month.

The new tax comes hot on the heels of a voter-approved measure last November that revived the state’s medical marijuana program from near-death.

Congress blocks feds from interfering with state marijuana laws

A bipartisan group of House Democrats and Republicans recently hashed out a $1 trillion budget for government spending, but none of which will be used to crack down on legal pot.
A new government funding bill will block the Department of Justice from using federal funds to prosecute law-abiding medical marijuana companies operating in legal states, reports the Orange County Register.
The budget’s full text of the marijuana provision is as follows:
None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to any of the States

Montana’s Medical Marijuana Program Is Rebounding


Although medical marijuana was on the verge of being rendered obsolete in the state of Montana, a new report shows that thousands of patients have been returning to dispensaries ever since voters approved a measure last November to resurrect the dying program.

There was speculation earlier last year that Montana could become the first state in the nation to have legalized medical marijuana and then lose it, all because of the state’s legislative and judicial brass.
