Washington Will Create The Country’s First State-Run “Organic” Certification Program for Weed – News

Washington governor Jay Inslee signed a cannabis “omnibus bill” into law yesterday and officially added a host of new regulations to the state’s marijuana rulebook. 

According to Seattle alt-weekly The Stranger, Inslee’s signature put in motion plans to create an organic certification for the state’s cannabis crop, create a system for legal home grows and finally added language to state marijuana legislation that allows adults to share their legal weed.

Minnesota’s Medical Marijuana Companies Are Running a Combined $11 Million Deficit – News

Both of Minnesota's state-licensed medical marijuana companies are deep in the red, according to annual financial statements submitted to state regulators uncovered by the Associated Press.

Minnesota Medical Solutions and LeafLine Labs both recorded losses of over a million dollars in 2016. Both companies ended 2015 in the red as well, with MinnMed ending 2016 $1.3 million in the red after losing more than $3 million in 2015.

New Mexico Medical Marijuana Program Has Grown to 40,000 Patients – News

New Mexico's medical marijuana program has seen significant growth in the decade since its inception in 2007. Since the beginning of the year, around 8,000 New Mexico residents have registered for the program, and the total number of MMJ patients in the state now tops 40,000, an increase of 84% since March of 2016.

The total number of dispensaries in the state has also increased to 56, up from 36 last January.

Philadelphia Mayor Believes Recreational Weed Should Be Sold in State-Run Liquor Stores

In an interview with local radio station WHYY, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said that he thinks Pennsylvania should legalize recreational marijuana and sell it via state-run liquor stores. The mayor said that selling and taxing recreational pot would provide additional funding for the state, so that they wouldn't need to raise income or sales taxes. “This is a new source of revenue that people are doing now,” he said.

Bullied in 5th grade, prone to drug abuse by high school






(HealthDay)—A child bullied in fifth grade is more likely to show signs of depression in seventh grade, and abuse substances like alcohol, marijuana or tobacco in 10th grade, researchers say.

Their study of more than 4,000 kids in Los Angeles, Houston and Birmingham, Ala., suggests a dangerous trajectory between not-uncommon childhood abuse and worrisome behavior in high school.
"Our study suggests that it's important to take peer victimization seriously," said study co-author Valerie Earnshaw. She's an assistant professor in human development and family studies at the University of Delaware.

What Are Oregonians Smoking? | Marijuana



The numbers are in! Oregonians bought and consumed $37 million worth of cannabis products in the month of March alone.
This year is proving to be the biggest year for cannabis in Oregon. Data from BDS Analytics‘ GreenEdge Retail Sales Tracking Data shows The Beaver State has already sold 24% more cannabis than this time last year, rounding out at $101 million worth of cannabis sales in the first quarter of 2017. Despite slowing retail sales nationwide, which fell by 0.2% in March according to the US Census Bureau, cannabis sales are growing at an accelerating rate.
