During the last few months, Canadians have felt the palpable anticipation hanging over the legalization of marijuana.
Cannabis lovers, growers, dispensary owners, and all others with with an interest in the expected end to prohibition have been anxiously awaiting the government’s official announcement to legislate and eventually legalize this long-suffering plant.
Today, that announcement finally arrived.
In a scheduled press conference, the federal government laid out the guidelines that will carry the nation forward into a new age of cannabis freedom.

Payment Processors Purge Marijuana Businesses in Fear of Federal Crackdown


Payment processing companies like PayPal, Square, and Stripe have been purging marijuana-related companies since the beginning of the year. The purge seems to be in response to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' most recent threat of cracking down on the legal marijuana industry. Canna-biz startups ranging from vape pen manufacturers to marijuana business software companies are now forced to scramble to find new methods of handling their payments.

Boston-based startup Ardent, manufacturer of a federally legal decarboxylator used to make marijuana edibles, was bounced from at least seven different payment processors.

Nevada legalized marijuana last November, and the State is working hard to get their recreational/adult-use cannabis industry up and running before 2018 – with sales possible as soon as this summer if all goes well. Following in the progressive footsteps of Colorado and California, the state of Nevada made the leap towards legalizing recreational cannabis last November. Walk into Brett Vapnik's medicinal marijuana dispensary in Los Angeles and the pungent aroma of pot is good and strong.

All day long, hundreds of people file in and out—a sign of the strength of the pot industry, despite big question marks posed by the new administration of President Donald Trump.
For now Vapnik, who also has a small pot garden in his store, just sells marijuana for medicinal purposes: from the plant itself, with varying degrees of potency, to beauty products and even chocolate and cookies, all laced with herb.
