SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Law School will host a series of events to help people with misdemeanor marijuana possession charges have their records expunged.
Windsor County State’s Attorney David Cahill and the law school’s Center for Justice Reform helped individuals complete petitions for expungement at the event in South Royalton on Saturday, June 9, 2018. The $90 filing fee will be covered by a grant from the Pennywise Foundation.
Robert Sand, the center’s director, said that while the event may not have a large turnout, it is an important step to make Vermonters aware that expungement is an option.
Once a charge is expunged from an individual’s, record it will be as if it never occurred under Vermont law.
Similar events will be held in Chittenden County from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the Costello Courthouse, 38 Cherry St., Burlington, and Bennington County later in June 2018.
