Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Weed 4’ documentary explores how marijuana could solve the opioid crisis


Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s latest report will take a look at marijuana’s potential to save lives from opioid addiction.

CNN’s chief medical correspondent examines marijuana’s possible role in ending America’s painkiller problem in the upcoming special report, Weed 4: Pot Versus Pills.

In the latest installment of his Weed documentary series, Gupta will meet with addiction researchers and pain management specialists who believe that cannabis could help wean patients from prescription opioids.

“Not only do I think that medical marijuana can be helpful in reducing opioid dependence and aiding first time users, but I also think it can actually be helpful in treating a type of pain that opioids just aren’t that good at treating,” Gupta told Marijuana.com. “It’s doing something that the existing ladder of treatments doesn’t do very well.”

Weed 4 will also feature an exclusive interview with NFL running back Mike James, who holds the distinction as the league’s first player to file for a therapeutic use exemption for marijuana.
