Mike Tyson Wants to Punch Above His Weight in His New Marijuana Ventures

After two decades of dishing out and taking constant beatings, former professional boxer Mike Tyson learned quite a lot about managing pain. So, with all of that firsthand experience, it only made sense for the former world heavyweight champ to share his secrets with the rest of us — especially now that it’s legal. At just 20 years old, the Brooklyn, New York, native became the youngest professional boxer to win the undisputed world title. Thirty-two years later, Tyson’s crowning achievement stands unmatched.

It was Mike’s signature peek-a-boo moves, lightning-speed reflexes, and relentless will to win that catapulted him to the forefront of professional boxing. Now, he carries those same tactics over to other ventures, including the cannabis industry.

Tyson has been vocal about his medical marijuana use, especially with the physical and mental damage he has endured throughout 20 years as a professional boxer.

Mike didn’t want to just develop his own strain, he set out to build his own marijuana cultivation farm, Tyson Ranch, a 40-acre property in California. As detailed in The Blast, this vast cannabis compound not only produces top-shelf strains of THC and CBD flower, but also utilizes innovative technology to further research on the therapeutic values of marijuana.

On the last day of May 2018, a private party was held on the roof of the London Hotel in West Hollywood to celebrate the launch of Tyson’s new cannabis companies, Tyson Holistic Holdings for CBD and medicinal and Tyson Ranch, his recreational line. Guests in semi formal attire were treated to fancy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, and great tunes on the rooftop overlooking the L.A. area.

Tyson’s arrival on the red carpet had the majority of attendees turning their heads, as the man of the hour walked straight into the spotlight with a commanding presence. Friendly as ever, a calm, poised Tyson greeted me with his signature smile before gushing about his exciting new business.

“I think we’re the best,” he stated. “I’m sure everybody believes they’re the best, but we believe that we’re the best because we’re educating people on what happens with marijuana. It’s more than just getting high.”

His goal for Tyson Holistic Holdings Inc. is “to continue to expand awareness around the issues of opioid use and further change the mindset around cannabis.” Of course, being one of the world’s most well-known professional boxers certainly comes with a lot of reach. Tyson makes it a point to use his platform for the greater good by educating the masses on what medical marijuana can do for them.

When asked what inspired Tyson to venture into the cannabis industry, he responded, “Cannabis helps me recover from all the pain that I had from over 20 years of boxing. I still have some pain I can’t get rid of, but my marijuana calms it down. It was a no-brainer. A friend of mine, they were able to solve the problem of pain they’ve been having for years. They were former athletes for over 20 years as well, so I thought that was a good idea.”

Tyson plans to bring the same intensity and drive he had in the ring to this new venture.

“I think I still have the same zest and veracity in becoming good at whatever I do after boxing,” he told me.
