Former Warriors coach Don Nelson grows his own ‘Nellie Kush’ marijuana strain

Don Nelson has gone from drawing plays to cultivating cannabis.

The former NBA coach was featured in a New York Times interview published Monday and touched on several topics, including his latest endeavor of growing medical marijuana.

The most winningest coach in NBA history currently lives in Hawaii and grows his own cannabis for medical purposes.

“I’ve got a medical card. I’m legal here,” explained Nelson. “When any athlete gets old, every injury you have sustained seems to resurrect. It helps me deal with the pain without pain pills, and helps with that stress.”

The former player turned coach grows his own special strain that crosses O.G. with Hindu Kush, which he has dubbed “Nellie Kush.”

Nelson says the idea to grow his own pot began three or four years ago while hanging out with his poker buddies and noted cannabis connoisseurs Woody Harrelson, Willie Nelson, and Owen Wilson.
